Documentary
I came home one weekend to find that my Dad had received a letter from Germany asking for information about my Grandfather Kmetzsch. I loved my Grandfather very much but my time with him was short. Because of this letter sent by a German stranger, my Dad and I drew closer to my Grandfather as we began a journey of learning things we never knew about him.
I decided that instead of just going through records that I would document my experience through the artistic venue of photography. I did this because I felt the photography would express my own personal experience and subsequently, my own emotions about my Grandfather. These events ten became a catalyst that inspired my Dad to dig farther and deeper into his Father's life.
